The wine list at Swinton Park offers an extensive range of wines, both in terms of grape and region, with an emphasis on quality and has been listed in the AA 2007-2008 Restaurant Guide for having a Notable Wine List. This recognition has been awarded to just 150 restaurants in the whole of the UK and the award was based on the overall quality of its wine selection and the presentation of the list.
Swinton Park has recently developed and expanded its wine list which now features 150 wines, from 13 countries and ranging in price from £17.99 to £400, with about 70% sourced from the old world but with an exciting and challenging range of new world wines.
Our Restaurant Manager, Yara Gremoli, has selected a few of her favourites for the current season, which marry wonderfully with our seasonal Classic and Signature and Tasting Menus in Samuel's restaurant.

Bin 230 BABICH "BLACK LABEL" SAUVIGNON
BLANC 2006
Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand £25.00
This family owned winery started with humble beginnings in the Northland
kauri gum fields early last century. Babich Wines have now become one
of New Zealand's most respected wineries. A small portion of juice is
fermented in old oak barrel barriques to contribute to the weight and
complexity of the wine. The "Black Label" will so develop flavours of
musk and passion fruit that leads into an intense fruit salad! The sweet
fruit combines with the zesty yet rich and textured palate is simply a
pure enjoyment.
Bin 343 CRISTOM WILLAMETTE VALLEY
VIOGNIER 2005
Salem, Oregon,USA £48.00
This vineyard was one of the first dedicated to this varietal in the Willamette
Valley. It is planted on Cristom's warmest site to ensure the Northern
Rhone Valley varietal will ripen to maturity. Its first release was in
1996. Winemaker Steve Doerner was a pioneer in Oregon for this grappe.
"I'm very pleased with our Viognier, especially since we grow it at the
estate. It is very rich, but for me, it's more about the nose than the
palate. It has floral characteristics on top of the fruit. Floral aromatics,
pear & apple, creamy palate.
Bin 156 CHABLIS CAVE DE LUGNY 2005
£25.75
Chablis is the most un-copyable style of chardonnay there is. In it's
"classic" guise, full of green fruits, tart citrus, flinty, smoky aromas
and bright, piercing acidity it's hard to believe it's the same grape
variety when put up against a fat, buttery, tropical-fruited New Worlder.
Here is an other example of great Chablis with its own characteristics:
Dry and Crisp, no real oak. Basically a ripe buttery Chardonnay with a
nice balance. 70% of 1er Cru grapes.
Rosé
Bin 321 LOS VASCOS ROSÉ 2007
Domaine Rothschild, Peralillo, Chile £20.95
Owned by the Domaine of Rotschild (Lafite), this rosé is made of 100%
Cabernet Sauvignon grappes, immediately pressed after harvesting which
preserves the freshness, the fruity aromas and the bright colour brought
by the juice. It is a limpid and brilliant coloured wine with bright pink
highlights. Very fresh and juicy in the mouth with a pleasant harmony
and good persistence.
Bin 323 GARRETSON WINE CO. "THE
CELEIDH" ROSÉ 2004
Paso Robles, California, USA £34.95
Mat Garretson has always been a big fan of the Rhone Valley grapes. As
a result, we are not surprised to have this unusual blend in California:
70% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre and 10% Grenache Thanks to a more innovative
approche , the wine has a lovely deep purple color, with concentrated
flavours of spice and cranberry It is a great summertime/fun drinking
wine, everything a rosé should be! "Big, bold & dramatic, it may be a
shock for those weaned on delicate, lighter-styled rosés. Nevertheless,
it has oodles of character" - Robert Parker.
Bin 324 REDMETAL VINEYARDS ROSÉ
2006
Maraekakaho Road, Hastings, Triangle, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand £21.95
Redmetal Vineyards are located on the southwestern edge of the Heretaunga
Plains, near Hawkes Bay, a long established wine region, on the east coast
of New Zealand's' North Island. The name Redmetal is derived from the
soils, which comprise a thin layer of silt loam lying over a red gravel
that was once an ancient riverbed. These soils, which provide excellent
drainage and to which the quality of the locally produced wines are attributed,
are known locally as 'red metals'. A 100 % Cabernet Franc wine with a
really deep rosé hue here, vibrant and pink. Sweet canned strawberry fruit
on the nose, with fresh blackberry leaf and a confected buttercream aroma.
This is no lily-livered rosé; this is big, flavoursome and yet fresh.
Quite possibly NZ's best Rosé

Bin 347 MENDEL MALBEC 2004
Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina £30.95
Full of concentrated, complex, plum, cassis, cherry, coffee & vanilla-edged
fruit. Stylish French oak. Exciting new project from legend Roberto de
la Mota. Mendel is the first name of the owner's father, a man who came
to Argentina as a young immigrant and ended up a successful businessman
in several different industries. He was also a man who loved the finest
things that life could offer, particularly wine. His children honor their
father by seeking perfection in their wines with his name on the label.
100% Malbec aged 12 months in 100% new French barrique with an incredible
dark red/purple color. The aromas of sweet French oak and espresso get
more complex with every swirl of the glass, unveiling black raspberry,
blueberry, plums, roasted coffee and caramel notes. Definitely a youngster
with plenty of ripe tannins for structure, but this beauty could be enjoyed
now!
Bin 310 BEAUJOLAIS-VILLAGE 2006
Georges Duboeuf, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France £27.95
George Duboeuf has a passion for wines, especially for Beaujolais. This
is where he has made his name and reputation. The creation of "the Duboeuf
wines" as a business in 1964 has contributed to the expansion of his wine
range and their renowned qualities. There are 39 villages entitled to
the name Beaujolais-Villages. This 100% Gamay is packed with juicy fruit.
It is tender, wonderfully fruity with the aroma of fresh grapes and when
served slightly chilled will compliment lighter foods.
Bin 471 AVONDALE SYRAH 2004
Avondale, South Africa £28.50
The Paarl region is situated in the southwest of South Africa, not too
far from Cape-Town. Avondale comprises 160 hectare of which 100 hectares
(25 hectares are certified organic vines) are planted with a selection
of mainly Rhône and Bordeaux grape varieties. The Grieve family (owner
of the Avondale wines) try to focus on natural predators and natural fungicides,
instead of using pesticides for their soil. From there, their wines are
as natural and biologique as possible and have gained the very valuable
renown (and certificates!) of producing Organic and Biologique Wines.
This syrah is packed with sweet fruit flavours of berries and some herbaceous
notes. It has an appealing texture in the mouth - soft and round. Elegant
style of Syrah that is already drinkable. A great Biologique wine!
