The North’s first Ice Hotel
Date: 28th January 2003
Global warming may be surprising us with some extreme weather conditions, but the silver lining to the current cold spell has been the welcome return of winter sports to the parkland at Swinton Park, one of Yorkshire’s grander hotels. Guests will find a recent addition to the country pursuits available, in the form of ice skating on Home Lake – and they can even join the proprietor, Mark Cunliffe-Lister’s, ice hockey team if they take to it. His grandfather, Willie Whitelaw, used to take him skating there as a boy – some of today’s more unruly politicians may wish they had paid the same attention to the dangers of thin ice.
