Investors in People Award

Staff at Swinton Park have been celebrating the recognition given to them recently when the hotel was awarded Investor in People status. This was achieved within a year of the hotel opening, and reflects the high levels of staff training and team building which employees enjoy.

The programme during the year consisted of ongoing training – both at an individual and team level, job swaps between the departments, six monthly appraisals and manager reviews given by each manager’s team of staff. A bonus scheme has also been introduced. One of the highlights was when the hotel was closed for 24 hours for a staff party and a highly successful team building day at Camp Hill, Kirklington, where every member of staff mastered the various challenges, including an assault course and power turn driving.

Sean Boyce, general manager, commented : “Our greatest asset at Swinton Park is our staff, and it has been my priority since we opened last year to ensure that we support and develop their skills to their full potential. I am delighted that we have achieved this award, and all credit is owed to the team for their hard work and commitment”.

The Investor in People inspection involved in depth interviews of a broad cross section of the staff, and established that the hotel met all the criteria required. The feedback was both positive and encouraging, and confirmed that the hotel “was achieving what it set out to do: provide a balance of very high levels of service and professionalism with a relaxed informal and friendly atmosphere”.
