Swinton Park was launched as a hotel in 2001 and having survived the onslaught of Foot and Mouth in its first year has continued to prosper and expand to become one of the highest rated hotels in the North of England. Developments over the years have included the addition of 10 new bedrooms, launch of the Cookery School with Rosemary Shrager, along with a Spa and Bird of Prey Centre.
To celebrate the hotel’s 10th birthday, the Cunliffe-Lister family are hosting a tree planting party on Tuesday 22nd March.
Children from Masham School and Kell Bank School, all born in 2001, will be attending to learn more about the original design of the 200 acres of parkland, the age of the surviving trees and the current woodland management and planting scheme. They will then take plant in the tree planting. The children will also be able to view the woodchip boiler to see how the hotel uses redundant timber and thinnings as a carbon neutral source of fuel for the hotel’s hot water and heating.
“We are delighted to be able to celebrate our 10th birthday and all that has been achieved in that time” commented Felicity Cunliffe-Lister “The planting of the trees at the party is part of our ongoing commitment to restore the parkland and ensure that it is there to be enjoyed by future generations. I like to think that the children attending will be able to come back in another ten year’s time when they and the hotel are both 20 to see how much their trees have grown.”
