The ground floor consists of a suite of five south facing rooms overlooking the lake and deerpark – the library (suitable for functions and weddings), the sitting room and private dining room, the drawing room and the dining room. The morning room and lower hall overlook the gatehouse and stable block.
The courtyard at ground floor houses a spa and fitness area in the conservatory with a variety of health and beauty treatments available. There is also the bar (in the family museum), a private cinema and a snooker and Victorian games room for the guests’ enjoyment and relaxation.
The Morning Room
An airy east facing room, home to the reception area, maps and activity information, retail space and meeting-up point.
The Sitting Room
South facing, with views over the terrace and Home Lake through two huge Georgian windows, the Sitting Room is a cosy and intimate room
The Drawing Room
A beautiful Georgian room, designed by Carr of York in 1765, with large bay windows and grand piano.
The Private Dining Room
Situated between the Drawing Room and Restaurant, the Private Dining Room offers intimate space for up to 20 guests.
Built by Samuel Cunliffe-Lister in 1880, this is a later addition to the castle and more Victorian in style with a sumptuously ornate gold leaf ceiling. Expansive views over Home Lake and the Parkland.
The Billiards Room
An ideal retreat for a rainy day or a late evening. An annexe to this room is also the Children’s Play Area
Designed to house the Danby family’s artefacts, the bar was once a museum and more recently the family chapel. The bar is home to some of Yorkshire’s finest ales (brewed a few miles away in Masham).
