  2014: 13th September – Wines to serve with Game 1st November – theme tbc 2014 Wine Appreciation Lunches are hosted by our restaurant management team and offer a light hearted approach to the world of wine, exploring the topical issues of the day. The event starts at 12 noon with a talk and informal tasting, followed by a two course lunch.  £40 per guest. 2015: 7th February – Minervois and the Languedoc 14th March – Leading wines from Australia and New Zealand 19th September – Revisiting German Wines & the Delights of Portugal 28th November – Celebrating Yorkshire’s wines, ciders and spirits

2015 Wine Appreciation Lunches will be linked to our Gourmet Weekend programme, with non residents welcome to join the tasting being run by our weekend wine experts and a lunch showcasing the typical food of the ‘terroir’ .

Head Chef Simon Crannage’s three course lunch menus champion local produce sourced from the hotel’s walled garden or from the Swinton Estate, celebrating the arrival of new produce with each season.

Guests receive a gift at the end of the lunch, either flowers from the garden or a foodie gift made using Swinton ingredients, and are welcome to take a stroll in the grounds and around the walled garden at their leisure.

Join celebrated gardener Susan Cunliffe-Lister for a two course lunch, garden talk over coffee and a guided tour of the grounds. Each lunch is themed on either the parkland and lakes, or the walled garden. The parkland lunches concentrate on the restoration of the landscape and the planting programme in the grounds. Susan will give an insight into her gardening style, and guests will be given a tour up to the parkland to view the daffodils or rhododendrons and azaleas.

The menus for garden lunches will include several ingredients from the garden, with recipe cards from our chef Simon Crannage. Susan will explain her choice of produce, with tips for cultivation and harvesting. £35 per person (includes a two course lunch, coffee, talk and guided tour). The lunch starts at 12.30 with coffee in the Drawing Room which then leads in to lunch.

“How to keep the Blooming Things Alive and Flowering” No dates currently scheduled Join Ray Creek of Ray Creek Orchids for a talk about orchids, the varieties that he grows and the growing conditions that they thrive in. This is followed by a two course lunch and an opportunity to buy orchids from Ray’s display. £35 per person, includes a talk and two course lunch, with a gift of an orchid for each guest. The event starts with a talk at 11.30 which then leads in to lunch.

2014: 19th April, 24th May, 20th June, 21st June, 26th July, 2nd August & 6th September Join us at the charming, rustic Deerhouse in the Parkland for an alfresco barbecue supper. Sensational food is served to you by our chef, tasting all the better for being outdoors, with candlelight, a starlit sky and a blazing fire to work their magic. What better way to relax and soak up the atmosphere of a dreamy English summer’s evening? And if the weather turns out to be less than pleasant, don’t worry. Tables are under cover in the Deerhouse and, if necessary, we can drop down canvas side panels to keep you warm and dry. We also offer a Deerhouse lunch combined with a short barbecue cookery course, where guests from each party can learn key barbecue techniques while cooking lunch with Cookery School chef Stephen Bulmer. £35 per person : includes Pimms on arrival and a two course meal. Guests will all be seated together at a single, large table. Warm clothing and footwear highly recommended, as the evening turns cool after sunset. This is a rustic experience, with uneven ground surrounding the Deerhouse – please take care on arrival and departure. In the event of very bad weather the event will be cancelled.

Join our falconer, Sophie Abbott, for a talk and presentation about falconry, reputed to be the oldest sport in the world, and the birds of prey that are in her care here at our Bird of Prey Centre. A two course lunch is then followed by a 45 minute breathtaking falconry display, as the owls, hawks and falcons are flown in the grounds, demonstrating their manouevres, flying speeds and abilities.

£95.00 per couple, including flying display and two course lunch. Bookings can be taken throughout the year, subject to availability. Warm clothing recommended for the outdoor display.

Thursday 14th August 2014 Join us to celebrate the beginning of the Game Season, with grouse sourced from the moorland on Swinton Estate and seasonal produce (both wild and cultivated) from the parkland and walled garden. The black-tie evening starts with pre-dinner champagne, and dinner is served with fine wine carefully selected to complement each dish, and introduced by a local wine merchant. £65 per person, including wine A special bed and breakfast rate is from £140.00 per room for attendees, subject to availability.

As we bask in the sunshine of high summer, the Swinton Estate and Yorkshire Dales provide a heavenly venue for walking, cycling and riding. Closer to home, the Walled Garden is brimming over with soft fruit and young vegetables, providing delicious ingredients for our Garden Lunches and Estate Produce Lunches.

The darkening leaves on the turret remind us that Autumn is coming, but also herald the coming of game, wild mushrooms and other seasonal treats.
