Events
Throughout the year, events are held in the gardens and parkland at Swinton Park. These range from a Garden Lunch with lunch and a tour of the grounds or a Garden Design Day to a Children’s Activity Day or a Hunter Gatherer Day in the parkland.
The gardens and grounds at Swinton Park are a great attraction and are enjoyed by families, walkers and bird watchers, birds of prey and foraging enthusiasts and even alfresco diners.
For many years the grounds and walled garden had been left in decline, but since the Cunliffe-Lister family bought back the castle in 2000 they have been restored, the mastermind behind all of this being Susan Cunliffe-Lister. it is Susan who hosts the Garden Lunches and Garden Design Days, and she also conducts tours of the grounds for private groups.

You can also join the Kitchen Garden : Grow and Eat Your Own cookery course for a tour of the walled garden before taking the produce back to cook in the cookery school.

Thank goodness the sun has now come out and we seem to have finally put winter behind us! The Parkland has burst into bloom with clouds of blossom and a colourful carpet of daffodils and bluebells around the trees.
The Walled Garden is also getting going, with bright tulips swaying in the breeze and home grown asparagus bursting forth. Asparagus is at its most delicious when eaten closest to home, so dishes featuring home-grown asparagus are now on all our menus, including the bar and lounge. The garden furniture is out and soon it will be time for afternoon teas on the lawn and evening drinks on the terrace at sunset. English summertime at it’s best.
