The Cookery School

Swinton Park Cookery SchoolThe cookery school is housed in the ground floor of the converted Georgian stables, which overlook the castle turret and parkland.

Light and airy throughout, the stylish décor is comfortable – a relaxed environment well disposed to the appreciation of good food and fine wine!

The demonstration kitchen has been designed to the highest specification with equipment from Neff, LaCanche, Magimix, Le Creuset, Apilco, The Pasta Company, ICTC, Wusthof knives, Mermaid, All-Clad, Cookware UK and the homely atmosphere is complemented by an Aga and Fired Earth tiles.

The demonstration kitchen and dining room both overlook the castle turret and parkland, with offices, a shop, toilets and preparation kitchen to the rear. The cookery school has its own entrance and is a very short walk across the drive from the hotel. The south facing lawn has outdoor seating, and there is adjacent car parking.

The four acre walled garden behind the hotel is planted with fruit, vegetables and herbs, providing a ready source of fresh ingredients for the hotel and school kitchens, and cut flowers during the summer months.


The Courses

The course programme offers a choice of day, evening and weekend courses run by our Cookery School Head Chef John Rogers, with themes that include Dinner Parties (Beginner to Advanced), Italian, Butchery and Fish & Shellfish. There are also specialised courses run by guest chefs for the Sushi, Indian, Preserving, Christmas in a Box and Children's Cooking courses. Rosemary Shrager is our guest Celebrity Chef, with her popular Two Day Courses (running over three days) offering a choice of Italian & French, Modern British Classic, Mediterranean Food, Modern British Game and Fish and Seafood themes. She is also running One Day Masterclass Courses themed on Bread and Sauces.

As well as hands on cookery courses we also offer demonstration meals cooked at the demonstration table in the cookery school - the Chef's Table dinner and the Sunday Masterclass Lunch. There are also Pre-Dinner Drinks Demonstrations for those who would like to whet their appetite before dinner.

Throughout the year there are also Gourmet Weekends running at the hotel that combine cookery demonstrations and tastings in the cookery school with wine tastings and gourmet dinners served in the hotel.

We can organise a cookery course or demonstration at any time outside of the scheduled programme.
