The Cookery School
Swinton Park Cookery School is located on the Swinton Estate, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Housed in the ground floor of the converted Georgian stable wing, the school adjacent to the hotel. Light and airy throughout, the stylish décor is comfortable – a relaxed environment well disposed to the appreciation of good food and fine wine!
The demonstration kitchen has been designed to the highest specification with the latest appliances from Gaggenau and equipment from Magimix, Le Creuset, Apilco, Thermomix, Kenwood, All-Clad, The Pasta Company, ICTC, Wusthof knives, Mermaid and Cookware UK. The homely atmosphere is complemented by an Aga and Fired Earth tiles.
Both the demonstration kitchen and dining room both overlook the castle turret and parkland, with shop and toilets close by and a preparation kitchen to the rear. The cookery school has its own entrance and is a very short walk across the drive from the hotel. The south facing lawn has outdoor seating, and there is adjacent car parking.
The Cookery School runs a busy programme of two day, one day and half day cookery classes throughout the year. Courses can be either residential or non residental and are available at a range of skill levels, including children’s cookery lessons. All cookery classes are hands-on and practical, covering a range of themes and cookery techniques from Game to Baking and from Dinner Parties to Wild About Food foraging courses, please see our course pages for further details.
The Chef’s Table Demonstration Dining Experiences which take place at the Cookery School offer guests an opportunity to enjoy the entertainment of a cookery demonstration and fine dining. The Cookery School is also an integral part of our Gourmet Weekends which combine wine tastings and cookery demonstrations with fine dining.
The four acre walled garden behind the hotel is planted with fruit, vegetables and herbs, providing a ready source of fresh ingredients for the cookery school kitchen and cut flowers during the summer months. The rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales also provide some of the best artisan-made ingredients in the UK.
Swinton Park Cookery School is a finalist in the British Cookery School Awards 2013, for the second year running and regularly appears in list of Top 10 Cookery Schools in the media.
The Kitchen Gossip
It’s lovely to see new season’s ingredients coming in, heralding the delights of the year to come. As well as Yorkshire rhubarb, the wild garlic is now in season and it wont be too long before new season’s lamb is available. 2014 has got off to a flying start with busy classes right across the schedule. Our Thursday Cookery Club Mornings and Supper Evenings have been very well received and our Barbecue Cook and Lunch courses get going over the Easter weekend.
