Adult Cookery Courses
Cookery Courses run throughout the year at Swinton Park Cookery School and can be booked by both hotel residents and non-residential guests. Chef Director Stephen Bulmer brings with him a wealth of experience of cuisines and cookery techniques from top restaurants all over the world.
- For complete beginners we have Cookery for Beginners and Bread Making for Beginners.
- For more confident cooks, wanting to really up their game, we would recommend our two day and one day Cooking with Star Quality Masterclasses - with classes in both French and Italian cuisine.
The majority of our one day and half day courses are designed to suit the regular home cook. Cuisine-based themes include Modern British, Italian, French, Spanish, Thai and Middle Eastern, while courses to improve technical skills in specific areas include Game Cookery, Meat & Poultry, Fish & Shellfish and Aga Cookery.
If you are looking for some new inspiration for Christmas cookery, please see our Festive Fare and Festive Aga Cookery day courses and also our very special Christmas in a Box course, where you prepare a seasonal meal for six to take home.
With entertaining in mind Stephen also runs a range of Seasonal Dinner Party courses, as well as the shorter and more relaxed Ultimate Sunday Lunch.
For those who would rather watch a master at work, we have regular Demonstration Dining Experiences at the cookery school. There are not only twice-monthly evening Chef’s Tables, but also Christmas Chef Table Lunches and Dinners, Saturday afternoon Mini Demonstrations and Pre-Dinner Wine Tastings with a Canapé demonstration.
We also have a range of guest chefs, bringing their specialist skills to the cookery school.
For something completely different – we are joined by Chris Bax, the renowned forager (most recently seen on Countryfile), who leads the Wild About Food courses. Guests will spend two hours foraging for wild edible food in the parkland with Chris, then turn their finds into a gourmet meal with Stephen in the cookery school.
We are also joined by Prett Tejura, who runs several Indian Masterclass Day Courses throughout the year.
And finally, aspiring future cooks are not forgotten. Tamsin Benning will be running a range of half day children’s courses each half term and in the summer holidays, as well as one day courses for older teenagers and a two day Teenager’s Cookery Bootcamp. See Children’s & Teenagers’ Cookery Courses for more details.

NEW! Short Cookery Courses
We are also launching new Thursday Cookery Club Mornings and Supper Evenings in 2014, to enable those with busy lifestyles to improve their culinary skills in ‘bite size’ sessions – you will learn the techniques to create a classic dish in just an hour, which you’ll then sit down to enjoy for lunch or dinner.
