Take a tour of the 20,000 acre family estate. Visit the local attractions and cottage industries, and the surrounding countryside and dales.

The tour lasts approximately two hours and costs £10 or £20 per person, depending on the size of the party. Prior booking is required.

Fishing on the Swinton Estate ranges from fly fishing for rainbow trout on the stocked Leighton reservoir, or for grayling, brown trout and salmon on the River Ure, along with coarse fishing in the parkland at Swinton Park. For more details please go to our Fishing pages

Learn the skills of Off Road Driving on our exciting and challenging course, which includes its own river crossing.

Costs: £95 per person for 2 hours. Minimum of 2 people.

The moors on the Swinton Estate comprise of 8000 acres of heather and rise to a height of 540 metres above sea level. Here you can see red grouse, golden plover, curlew, red shank and lapwing as well as merlin.

Marfield Nature Reserve, beside the River Ure, is a short drive from Masham, or a walk along the River Ure, which is a lovely peaceful spot to enjoy watching waders, ducks and geese.

There is also a Bird Hide beside the lake in the grounds at Swinton Park (for hotel and non-resident guest use) for viewing woodland and water birds.

From pony trekking at the Swinton Trekking Centre to the Cross Country course and permit riding, the riding on offer on the Swinton Estate suits a wide range of abilities. Please go to our Riding pages

Mountain Biking

Explore the off road tracks in the parkland, the country lanes or the moorland tracks on one of the hotel’s mountain bikes.

There are bikes available for adults and children, at a charge of £25 per day, and we also have room on the stand for guest bikes should you prefer to bring your own with you (please bring a padlock and chain to secure your bike)

No booking of hotel bikes is required, but availability is subject to guest demand.

Swinton Bivouac is a ‘glamping’ – luxury camping – site on the Swinton Estate, just two miles from Swinton Park and close to the Druid’s Temple. Their charming cafe/restaurant not only provides a great destination for a coffee & cake, light lunch or afternoon tea, after a walk or cycle ride (maps available at the hotel reception), but also hosts a variety of activities and events throughout the year. We are delighted to have received planning approval for our Country Club and Spa, which will include an indoor swimming pool together with full spa and fitness facilities, as well as a 40-seat conservatory restaurant, coffee shop and Swinton Estate shop.
