Burton Agnes
Described by Simon Jenkins, author of England’s Thousand Best Houses, as ‘the perfect English house’, Burton Agnes is an Elizabethan stately home that has stayed within the same family for 400 years. It is currently run by Simon Cunliffe-Lister, brother of Mark (owner of Swinton Park). There are also award winning gardens and a Norman Manor House.

RHS Harlow Carr
The gardens at Harlow Carr were first planted in the 1940s, and now extend to 27 hectares. Recent developments include the Rose Revolution Borders, Gardens through Time and the Winter Walk.

Thorp Perrow
The arboretum at Thorp Perrow is one of the finest private collections of trees and shrubs in the country. This 85 acre arboretum is unique to Britain, if not Europe, in that it was the creation of one man, Colonel Sir Leonard Ropner (1895 – 1977). There is also a Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre.

Studley Royal Water Garden
Studley Royal is arguably England’s most important 18th century Water Garden. With its formal, geometric design and its extraordinary vistas, the water garden was inspired by the work of the great French landscape gardeners and is a Georgian masterpiece of an ornamental green garden adorned with Classical statues and follies.

Thank goodness the sun has now come out and we seem to have finally put winter behind us! The Parkland has burst into bloom with clouds of blossom and a colourful carpet of daffodils and bluebells around the trees.
The Walled Garden is also getting going, with bright tulips swaying in the breeze and home grown asparagus bursting forth. Asparagus is at its most delicious when eaten closest to home, so dishes featuring home-grown asparagus are now on all our menus, including the bar and lounge. The garden furniture is out and soon it will be time for afternoon teas on the lawn and evening drinks on the terrace at sunset. English summertime at it’s best.
