With Team GB’s success at the 2012 London Olympics, cycling has never been more popular in England. With the recent announcement that the July 2014 Grand Départ for the Tour de France will be in Yorkshire, now is the perfect time to come cycling in the Dales and try out the route ahead of the professionals.
The Tour de France route will run through the Swinton Estate, on the first section between Hawes and Ripon. With 20,000 acres of farmland and moorland, the Swinton Estate provides a wonderful base for a cycling trip, whether for a day, weekend or a short break. It offers a variety of inclines and terrain, from steep moorland tracks to winding country lanes, all with incredible views across rolling countryside into the Dales.
Swinton Park is at the heart of the Swinton Estate, so an ideal base for both gentle afternoons of exploration or more testing cycling challenges. Both mountain bikes and electric bikes are available for hire and rucksack picnics can made to order for you to enjoy along the way. Best of all, you can look forward to the creature comforts of a luxury hotel on your return, where you can indulge in a well earned afternoon tea or relaxing spa treatment before dinner.

Swinton Park to The Bivouac and return
The Bivouac, a luxury camping destination on the Swinton Estate, has a stylish but informal café/restaurant that provides an ideal stopping during a cycle tour place for a coffee & cake or light lunch.
For something new, or for those worried their energy levels might need an extra boost, we also have two electric bikes (1 x men’s and 1 x women’s) by Giant. These bikes have three power levels, so you can set them to give you greater or lesser assistance as you prefer. A full battery will last approximately 40 miles/4 hours giving you plenty of scope to explore, but should you need to re-charge the battery, this can be done by connecting to a standard electrical plug socket.
Bike Hire Charges:
Mountain bikes: hire of £10 half day and £15 full day
Electric bikes: hire of £15 half day and £25 per day
Tour de Yorkshire Cycling Package
With next year’s Grand Départ in mind, Swinton Park has created a cycling accommodation package, including free bike hire and cyclist massage. This will suit keen cyclists wanting to try out nearby sections of the Tour de France route and also those preferring to explore the range of routes around the estate. Please see Tour de Yorkshire for full details.
